About Abe Goldstien

For more than 50 years, I have been a jazz missionary. As the owner of a record store in the early 1970s, I converted many rock and rollers to the wonders of jazz. As a radio show host, I continue to spread the word about jazz artists old and new. (You can listen to my show every Sunday night, 5 to 8 PM CST, at kfmg.org.) As a lecturer, I share my passion for jazz with students of all ages. As executive director of the Community Jazz Center of Greater Des Moines, I honor the past, present and future of jazz in my community. My wife and I bring jazz musicians to our community throughout the year to perform at our Jazz at Caspe Terrace series. And now as the author of Papatamus Redux, I am pleased to share my comments about recent jazz releases with you.

Welcome to Papatamus Redux

I started reading Cadence in the early 1980s. Since that time, I have come to respect editor and jazz critic Robert Rusch for his intelligent, succinct and unbiased reviews. Over the past twenty years, it has been my pleasure to get to know Robert and his family, making frequent trips from our home in Iowa to New York’s North Country. Several years ago, I was honored to be asked to help edit Robert’s Papatamus column.
I was equally honored to be asked by his family to keep Robert’s legacy of intelligent, succinct and unbiased jazz reviews alive with Papatamus Redux. You can view older editions of Papatamus at papatamus.com.
